The complete name of ME is Master of Engineering and the complete name of MTech is Master of Technology. The MTech is a specialized postgraduate engineering master’s degree program awarded to candidates who have completed two years of study in an engineering discipline.
In India, ME/MTech degrees cover a variety of specializations. These majors include civil engineering, computer science and engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, VLSI, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and more.
This degree course is offered under the following categories:
Regular employee (full-time)
Part time Mtech
Project staff (for those currently working on sponsored projects)
This master’s degree program also accepts working adults or those with a specified period of work experience.
In India, this Master’s Degree is regulated under the auspices of the University Grants Commission of India (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Accreditation Board (NBA). Admission to ME/MTech programs offered by technical colleges and universities in India is through national/state/institute level engineering entrance exams.
M.Tech stands for Master of Technology. This is a postgraduate course in various specialties of engineering. Admission to this course is based on various state and national level entrance examinations. This course is designed for applicants who specialize in knowledge in a specific area of engineering.
Students with an M.Tech degree can enter the field of research and development. They are offered a wide range of opportunities across different specialties such as mining, electrical, chemical and civil engineering. During this degree, candidates will be exposed to industrial training to obtain practical training in their area of specialization.
Who Can Chase M.Tech?
MTech can be pursued by those wishing to acquire specialized skill sets in various areas of engineering and establish a promising career in industry or research and development. Therefore, anyone who aspires to become a Principal Engineer, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Consultant, or Research Associate should enroll in this program.
Advantages of MTech:
After pursuing MTech, candidates can find a wide range of opportunities in enhancing their practical knowledge. They can hold top positions in industry and work as consultants in research and development institutes. You can also work for public sector companies serving core industries such as mining, chemicals, construction and real estate.
The cost of obtaining a Master of Technology degree varies between public and private engineering colleges. Private universities charge high fees for MTech programs ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per year. Public universities charge relatively low fees ranging from INR 1-3 lakh per year.
Difference between ME and MTech:
As mentioned above, ME stands for Master of Engineering and MTech stands for Master of Technology. The main differences between these two degrees are in terms of practical impact, course content, and orientation.
M.E. is known as Masters of Engineering.
- M.E. is more knowledge oriented.
The M.E. is typically designed for students who plan to work after graduation and are already in engineering school.
M.E. emphasizes the clarification of the detailed concepts of the facts.
M.E. is most often preferred by private colleges or universities. For example, IIT.
- M.E. is a conventional term used primarily for theory-based research.
M.Tech Known as the Master of Technology.
- M.Tech More skill-oriented than.
- M.Tech. aims to develop research engineers who can acquire the status of “engineers” in the industrial world and research institutes.
M.Tech. Emphasis on practical exposure of conceptual knowledge.
M.Tech. is offered by various university partner colleges.
M.Tech.Includes use of technology and other aids.
ME/M.Tech Eligibility Criteria:
The basic eligibility requirements for admission to the ME/MTech program are:
Candidates who achieve a valid GATE score and obtain a BE/BTech degree are eligible for ME/MTech degree courses.
Candidates who have completed a five-year program in science or applied science and have been awarded a Master of Science degree are also eligible for the Master of Engineering course.
Admission is based on the rank obtained in the entrance examination administered by ME./MTech.
Please note that ME/MTech eligibility criteria vary by institution.
MTech 2023 Entrance Exam – GATE
The Engineering Graduate Aptitude Test, or commonly known as GATE, is a national-level engineering examination administered annually for admission to graduate and doctoral level courses in the IIT, NIT, and IIIT. The trial will be conducted jointly by seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
Various government and private agencies across the country accept GATE scores for admission to MTech programs. In addition, Public Sector Units (PSU) are also recruiting engineers through GATE.
GATE 2023 will be held in online mode on 4, 5, 11 and 12 February by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. Temporary keys will be available from February 21st through February 25th. Results will be announced between March 16th and March 31st, 2023.
