According to sources, inconsistencies were found within the reports that the central organization had inquired the Kolkata-based businessman to show some time recently on Monday.
The Requirement Directorate ED captured businessman Kaustuv Ray, the proprietor and editor of a Kolkata-based Bengali news channel, on charges of budgetary inconsistencies as part of the multi-crore Pincon chit support trick after examining him for a few hours on Monday night.
Ray, moreover the chairman of RP Gather that runs the news channel in address, Kolkata TV, is known to be near to the Trinamool Congress.
Officials said he was captured after the examiners found errors in his statements. His office and house have been searched a few times in the past with the Wage Charge Office raiding his premises only a month ago.
When being taken to the Bankshall Court in Salt Lake on Tuesday, Ray said, “I have been embroiled in a false case and wrongfully captured. I took money for advertisements carried in our channel. I showed all documents to the ED. It is being done at the behest of the central government.”
In 2015, the Kolkata Police had captured Beam in a bank extortion case on the premise of a warrant by a Delhi court. The CBI had too enlisted a case against him the same year in association with advance default and recorded a chargesheet in 2017.
Ray, who considered financial matters from Jadavpur College, was captured by the organization in 2018 for supposedly duping banks to the tune of Rs 515 crore. It was alleged that RP Infosystems, a company of RP Gather, had cheated a consortium of 10 banks driven by Canara Bank. The company got advances allegedly on the basis of false and fabricated stocks/receivables/debtor statements, manufactured drawing control letters etc.
The other banks in the consortium included the State Bank of India, Central Bank of India, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Union Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Allahabad Bank, State Bank of Patiala, Punjab National Bank and Federal Bank.
Even as Ray, also a film maker, isn’t directly involved with the TMC, he has been seen with leaders of the ruling party at different political occasions. The Opposition leaders claimed that he is near to a few TMC functionaries.

Welcoming the ED’s move to capture him, Congress pioneer Kaustav Bagchi said, “He had gone to the house of Anish Khan (a student dissident who passed on beneath suspicious circumstances) as a TMC representative to impact the case.
